This episode is based on https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2024-10-28/hospice-care-saves-medicare-lots-of-money-study-finds and https://hospicenews.com/2024/11/04/longer-hospice-stays-among-dementia-patients-save-medicare-dollars/ where dementia patients remaining on hospice saves Medicare money, and the conundrum of admitting dementia patients too early then discharging them for failure to decline. This sparked the writing of a new book (still in the works) to help my fellow hospice nurses know when to admit and how to maintain dementia patients on hospice services.
