History remembers that two young ladies, sisters Juanita and Gertrudis, citizens of San Antonio de Béxar, were among the few survivors of the Battle of the Alamo. But does history remember that these two Señoritas stood by their cousin-in-law James Bowie's side, rendering medical attention and comfort throughout the siege – even until the bitter end?

As Mexican forces entered the Navarro sisters' hometown on February 23, 1836, their cousin-by-marriage, James Bowie, brought them with him to the Alamo Mission so he could protect them, including Juana's one-year-old baby. In the final days of the siege, the Navarro sisters would become Jim Bowie's nurses and protectors.
