The Saab JAS 37 Viggen is a Swedish multirole combat aircraft designed and manufactured by Saab AB during the 1960s and 1970s. It features a distinctive delta wing with a canard configuration, which enhances its maneuverability and short takeoff and landing capabilities. Powered by a Volvo RM8 turbofan engine with an afterburner, the Viggen was equipped for a variety of roles, including air superiority, ground attack, and reconnaissance. It was one of the first aircraft to feature computer-based avionics and an integrated attack/navigation system. The Viggen served in the Swedish Air Force from 1971 until its retirement in the early 2000s, replaced by the Saab JAS 39 Gripen.
