The Hoia Baciu forest has a portal in the woods. The Hoia is the world's most haunted forest. In this Bermuda Triangle of Romania, disappearances are common.

There are other monsters in Transylvania which are still unknown outside of Romania. One is the "Demon of Tuesday", Martolea. The sabbath is the weekly day of rest only for Jews and Christians. Martolea is a pagan entity who forbids women to work Tuesday evenings at certain chores. If a woman is caught baking bread or washing clothes, in violation of the pagan day of rest, the sentence is death at the hands of the demon. Different people see the demon in different forms - at the same time. A man will see a young virgin. His wife will see an old woman. Their unmarried daughter will see a handsome young boy. To those women who keep the pagan sabbath holy, Martolea may leave a small reward at their doorstep... such as a basket of eggs. The forest of Hoia Baciu is the domain of another entity... Muma Padurii, the mother of the forest.

The trees of the Hoia have twisted limbs. Some are stunted and some are blackened as if burnt. In the age preceding written history, the forest derived its name from a shepherd who disappeared there, along with two hundred head of sheep. Today the Romanians call it their own "Bermuda Triangle".

The Hoia forest is incredibly small, only one kilometer at its widest point, and covers an area just over one mile square. Its current reputation for disturbances began one day in 1968, when in a sky completely devoid of cloud formations, a UFO was sighted rising over the treetops of Hoia Baciu by four people walking from the nearby village of Cluj. One of them had a camera and he took multiple photographs.

At this time Romania was a country in isolation behind the iron curtain of Soviet domination. Despite the fact that the photographer Emil Barnea eventually had his pictures published by state media, he never expected and never received any payment. It was against the law for him to sell his photographs.

The Poiana Rotunda, a round patch of earth inside the forest, from which Barnea's UFO was calculated to have launched, remains a circle of lifeless ground to this day. First the communist government, and then the capitalist government attempted to re-forest the barren soil of the Rotunda, but nothing there will grow.

Hoia Baciu is recognized as a danger to the innocent, not just because of Muma Padurii's habit of kidnapping little children. The forest hides a gateway to another dimension. Some who enter the wood experience missing time, with no recollection of how they spent several hours. In one account a five year old girl got lost and wandered into the Hoia. From the forest she also emerged, but it was five years later. Wearing the same dress as on the day she went missing, she had no memory of what happened to her and she had not aged a single day.

There's a reason that tourists continue to be attracted to the haunted woods... despite their feelings of being watched, despite the fact that visitors are often injured or fall ill before they are able to escape the forest.

It is a popular tourist destination because it appeals to those who are reincarnated souls. These visitors expect to receive a special blessing in this tiny forest of Transylvania, for it is said that inside Hoia Baciu, one is able to clearly remember all the details of one's past lives.
