WIRED investigations of leaked data reveals 25,580 hidden microphones across America. “12 million Americans live in a neighborhood with at least one microphone”

These microphones, called shot spotter microphones, are supposed to be for alerting if a gunshot happens but a 2021 study in Chicago revealed “89% of alerts in the city of Chicago did not result in police finding evidence of a gun-related crime”

So if these microphones fail roughly 90% of the time then why are they installing 10s of thousands of them all over America?
