Dystopic Journal Review: 5 Things That Didn't Happen in 2024

An uncontested presidential election. Whichever side loses the 2024 election will say it was stolen. “Too big to steal,” was the stated goal of the Trump campaign, and they delivered. The Republicans had more activists, poll watchers, and lawyers on the ground this time around ready to nip any Democrat shenanigans in the bud. No state was seriously contested by the Democrats.

An impeached Biden convicted in the Senate. The House may not even impeach Joe Biden, despite the fact there’s far more cause to impeach him than there was to impeach Trump either time. Even if they do, few if any Democrats will vote to remove him. The Republicans did create a committee to look into impeaching Biden which got cold feet and stopped short of impeaching him. They did launch an unsuccessful impeachment of Alejandro Mayorkas which was nixed in the Senate who ignored their constitutional mandate to hold a trial.

A national news media providing unbiased reporting. We have a better chance seeing Bigfoot ride a dinosaur down 5th Ave than any of the legacy news media adopting non-biased reporting standards. The news media may lie and deceive for partisan reasons, but ratings don’t. Some legacy media outlets have done some introspection. The LA Times, for example is toying with the idea of employing an AI media bias rating and balancing its op-ed page. (We’ll see how that goes.)

A Conservative government anywhere in the English-speaking world doing anything very well…conservative. Big “C” Conservatives are really good at only one thing– disappointing small “c” conservatives. As if not to disappoint… In Britain, Conservative Party ineptness lead to losses at the polls, losing them control of the House of Commons.

Disney putting out a truly non-woke, family friendly entertainment product. Nothing bearing the Disney name will cater to traditional family values, and unfortunately this may also extend to any of their properties, namely Marvel or Star Wars. Disney was/is addicted to its woke, diversity at any cost agenda. The most charitable thing one can say about Disney is they seem to have at least admitted they have a problem and seem to be weening themselves off the woke agenda rather than quitting cold-turkey. While they didn’t go full Netflix when they cast light skinned, mixed-race Nico Parker as Astrid, a female Viking in the live action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, she would not exactly pass for Scandinavian. Though not strictly a family values problem, the casting choice looks like diversity for diversity’s sake. Hopefully when they cast Rapunzel for their live-action version of Tangled, the actor will be female and actually have hair.
(Writer’s note: I haven’t watched any Disney titles excepting for Marvel and Star Wars, so my ability to comment is limited. Feel free to leave your impressions in the comments.)
