The FBI confirmed that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran from Texas, acted alone in the New Year’s Eve truck attack in New Orleans, reversing earlier claims of possible accomplices.

Inspired by the Islamic State, Jabbar posted five videos on Facebook pledging allegiance to the group before driving a rented truck into a crowd, killing 14 people.

He was fatally shot by police after the attack. Authorities found an IS flag in the truck and neutralized explosive devices at the scene.

Jabbar, who served in the Army from 2007 to 2020, had a history of isolation but showed no prior signs of radicalization, according to his family, the Associated Press has reported.
