Black Rock Summit, located in the northern section of Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, offers some of the most stunning panoramic views in the region. This popular hiking destination sits at an elevation of 3,292 feet and is known for its striking rock outcrops that provide sweeping vistas of the surrounding valleys, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Piedmont Plateau. The summit can be accessed via a short but rewarding hike along the Black Rock Summit Trail, a 1.3-mile loop that begins at the Black Rock Gap parking area. Along the way, hikers pass through a diverse forest of oak, hickory, and pine, and may even spot wildlife like deer or wild turkeys. At the summit, the dramatic rocky outcroppings create a perfect spot for taking in the beauty of Shenandoah’s wilderness, especially at sunrise or sunset when the light plays across the landscape in mesmerizing hues.
