Hydraulic silo - hydroelectric generator reuses water for continuous electricity

Water is not a new component in the generation of electricity in an environmentally friendly way, but a hydroelectric generator that provides clean electricity and does so using the same water in the process is certainly something new. Designed by Dindo Mangubat, the hydroelectric silo generates electricity using nothing more than some electricity to start the generation and some water that will not be wasted.

The nano hydro power plant has five main components – a water tank that acts as a reservoir, a water pump to increase the water pressure, a starter to start the pump, a turbine to convert the water energy into electricity and of course a generator. The process starts when the user adds some water to the water tank. The water pump is then connected to external power sources. The water pump increases the pressure of the water that falls on the turbine blades. Once the turbine blades start rotating, the external power source is removed from the pump and it is connected to the turbine using a pulley, belt, or gear mechanism that is attached to the turbine. The rotating turbine blades are connected to the generator where electricity is generated. The water that passes through the turbine is not wasted but goes back to the water tank so that it can be used again. The amount of electricity generated in the process depends on the RPM of the turbine blades, which in turn depends on the water pressure.

The system's designer believes it could be used in family homes and other small applications such as small farms, and as the technology improves it could also be used in hybrid cars.
