How to Prune Fig Trees

In this video I will try to show how we prune our fig trees in Maryland(we are in zone 6a). You can adapt this pruning technique to your own situation and climate. For us we wait till the tree is dormant in early winter so that we can take cuttings for rooting new trees the following year. This method that we use has worked well for us over the past 10 years and as usual your harvest will many times depend on the current years weather.
This past year(2024) we had a great harvest of anywhere from 3000-6000 figs, after awhile it gets hard to keep track of how many you have picked. We hope this video will help you understand the purpose behind how you prune and as always do not overthink to much and don’t be afraid to try a new method and experiment in your area.
