On August 9th, 2024, officers were dispatched to Target in response to an ongoing shoplifting incident. The loss prevention officer informed them that a woman was replacing price tags on items with cheaper tags. She was caught on CCTV footage committing the crime. She then proceeded to the self-checkout, where she scanned only 5 of the 12 items, totaling $19.50, though the actual cost should have been $268.48. As she was leaving without paying for the other 7 items, an employee stopped her and called the police. The officer tried to understand how the woman was replacing the tags. The female officer attempted to motivate her child, who was afraid of the bullies, to go to school. Soon, the child’s grandfather arrived to take him home. They tried to understand why the woman was stealing in the first place. Based on the evidence collected by the officers, the woman was arrested. The woman was previously caught stealing from Target on December 23, but the store didn’t pursue charges. This time, she was charged with shoplifting items worth $100 to $749 and with scheming to defraud under $749.
