Autism Challenges Pt 03: TRAUMA = Language & Cognitive Processing Issues

Autism challenges with language and cognitive processing often stem from early trauma that blocks access to the socialization process. Socialization is where we learn the unspoken rules of communication—like understanding tone, sarcasm, and abstract language. When this process is disrupted, the brain adapts by retreating into a creative mind state, focusing on patterns and systems instead of social and emotional learning.
This adaptation fosters a systemizing cognitive style, which excels in logic and structure but struggles with the nuances of human interaction. Over time, accumulating traumas from misunderstandings or rejection reinforce these challenges, making communication and socialization even harder.
In this video, we’ll explore how these patterns arise, why literal thinking and slower processing occur, and how addressing trauma can help reopen the door to growth and connection. Healing is possible, and it starts with understanding the root causes.
