In this video, I explore how the internet is transforming Islam in ways that mirror the historical impact of the printing press on Christianity. As an ex-Muslim, I share my personal journey of questioning religious dogma and how platforms like Reddit, YouTube, and TikTok have become powerful tools for fostering critical discussions about Islam. From its rigid enforcement of beliefs to its colonial and moral contradictions, Islam is now facing unprecedented scrutiny.
We look into the rising rates of apostasy in Islam, particularly in the West, and how up to 25% of youth in countries like Saudi Arabia are identifying as non-religious. With Muslim communities increasingly exposed to free thought and education, the narrative of Islam’s unshakable growth is being challenged. While Islam has historically expanded through high birth rates in underdeveloped regions, we examine how assimilation, higher education, and secularism are reshaping its future in the 21st century.
I also discuss the role of online ex-Muslim communities and public figures who are normalizing criticism of Islam, as well as the irony of modern Muslims who attempt to whitewash their religion to align it with progressive values—potentially paving the way for Islam’s reform or decline. At the heart of this transformation is the internet, the silent force dismantling centuries of dogma and empowering a generation to ask questions without fear.
