Ethiopia: 71 People Dead, 5 Injured After Truck Plunges into River | Firstpost Africa

At least 71 people have died in southern Ethiopia after a truck carrying a wedding party plunged into a river on Sunday. Local authorities have said that the death toll from the accident so far included 68 men and three men, with only five people surviving the chilling road accident. Authorities have said that the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the freight truck when trying to turn a tight bend ahead of a bridge. Eyewitnesses of the incident also said that the people lost their lives as the vehicle overspeeded. Road accidents are a common phenomenon in Ethiopia. Drunk driving, poorly maintained roads and weak road safety laws, among others, have contributed to the recurring accidents in Ethiopia. Watch the video for more.
