Journey To The Birthplace of PAELLA Valenciana! 🇪🇸

The single most important reason I travelled to Valencia was to try the original Paella Valenciana. I wasn't content with having one in Madrid, or in Barcelona. And actually, I wasn't satisfied with just having one in Valencia. I had to go where Paella was born, my heart felt this divine call, the ultimate Spanish Food pilgrimage a man can take.

In this video I first showcase some local Valencian "small bites", or tapas, if you wish (even tho we are not in Madrid). Olives, croquetas, Pimiento de Padron (rosted green pepper), tostas, all appetisers that can prepare your stomach to a proper dinner. I also try Agua de Valencia, the local cocktail. Then I move into the good stuff: Arroz Negre, in one of the most popular restaurants of the Valencia historic city centre, Rincon 33. Arroz negre is made of squid ink rice and lots of seafood, mostly crustacean. It's a seafood version of paella if you wish and it tastes divine. One cannot go to Valencia just for a traditional paella, and miss out on the local seafood arroz.

In the last part of the video, I travel to the small (very small) town of El Palmar, in the middle of L' Albufera Natural Park, also hosting the biggest lake in Europe. It's a sleepy fishing village surrounded by wetlands and rice fields, where there are more paella restaurants then family houses. Here my journey is complete, I feel at peace, trying the famous Paella Valenciana, which typically has chicken and rabbit. It's a beautiful end to my Spanish food adventures (for now) and it will stay forever in my heart and memory.
