The film tells the story of the brilliant and controversial Italian painter Michelangelo Merisi, aka Caravaggio, with the scientific advice of Claudio Strinati and the interventions of Mina Gregori, President of the Foundation for the Studies of the History of Art, Roberto Longhi and Rossella Vodret, curator of the exhibition “Dentro Caravaggio,” at Palazzo Reale in Milan until January 28, 2018.

The film is a true emotional and investigative excursus that guides us through Caravaggio’s life, his works and his torments through the places that still today preserve his masterpieces: Milan, Florence, Rome, Naples and Malta. In this excursus, Caravaggio’s tormented life is reconstructed through in-depth documentary research that begins at the Diocesan Historical Archives of Milan (where the baptismal certificate dated 29 September 1571 is kept today), then moves to the State Archives of Rome (where we find evidence of Caravaggio’s life as a dark, bold and hot-blooded character).

The film is a project developed by the creators of “Raphael: The Lord of the Arts – in 3D” and “Florence and The Uffizi in 3D”. An original Sky production with Magnitudo Film, with the recognition of the Directorate General Cinema of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, with the Patronage of the Municipality of Milan, created in collaboration with Palazzo Reale and Vatican Media (formerly the Vatican Television Center) and with the support of Malta. Filming took place in Milan, Florence, Rome, Naples and Malta.
