The Top 10 Nations in the World with the Highest Rates of Rape Crime
The crime of rape is especially difficult to analyze. It is seldom ever reported in several parts of the world. Because of the severe social shame attached to women who have been raped, abused, or fear being rejected by their family, women in various nations are far less likely to have their complaints documented.
Statistics on rape and other sexual assaults are widely available and are on the rise in developed nations. Around the world, a significant number of rapes go unreported. The figures for ten well-known nations with the highest rates of rape crimes are shown here. You would be shocked to learn that this crime is most prevalent in the most developed nations, such as the United States, Canada, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Approximately 36% of women worldwide have been victims of intimate partner abuse, whether it be sexual or physical. In the United States, 83% of females between the ages of 12 and 16 report having been sexually harassed at public school. One in five women in England between the ages of 16 and 59 report having been the victim of sexual violence.
10. Denmark and Finland
In Europe, 5% of women have been raped, and one in three have experienced some kind of sexual or physical abuse.
A 2014 study conducted by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights found that roughly 47% of Finnish women surveyed reported experiencing physical or sexual abuse, while 52% of Danish women reported experiencing the same. In 1994, Finland became one of the last nations in the EU to make marital rape a crime.
Of the women interviewed, over one out of ten reported having been sexually abused by an adult before the age of fifteen. One in ten reported having been sexually abused since they were fifteen, and one in twenty reported having been raped. Additionally, more than one in five reported having been the victim of physical or sexual abuse by a current or past relationship. Just 13% of women told the police about their most serious experience.
9. Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is ninth among the nations with the highest rates of rape crimes worldwide. In Zimbabwe, at least one woman is raped every ninety minutes. The most recent figures from Zimbabwe National Statistics (ZimStat) show that 500 women were sexually molested per month, which equates to roughly 16 rapes each day.
Compared to 1285 occurrences during the same period last year, a total of 1524 cases were reported during the first three months of this year. Of the cases that were recorded, 276 were children between the ages of 5 and 10 and 780 were minors between the ages of 11 and 16. However, since some cases go unreported, there are concerns that the number may be greater.
UNICEF reports that 42 percent of children in Zimbabwe are raped. According to the data, the number of police-reported cases of minor rape increased from 2,192 in 2010 to 3,112 in 2014. A culture of denial and concealment probably prevented many other incidents from being reported.
8. Australia
In Australia, there are reportedly a lot of rapes per 100,000 inhabitants. An estimated 51,200 Australians who were 18 years of age or older experienced sexual assault in the past 12 months. Nearly one-third (30%) of sexual assault victims reported their most recent experience to the police.
Compared to one in fourteen women worldwide, one out of six Australian women must endure the agony of being raped by a non-partner, according to news.com. According to the report, rape occurs among Australian women above the age of fifteen. With 16.4% of women reported being raped by someone other than a partner, Australia (together with New Zealand) ranked third in the global study.
According to Karen Willis, executive officer of the NSW Rape Crisis Centre, over 70% of these sexual attacks are committed by friends, relatives, coworkers, or classmates. An additional 29% of rapes are committed by a person the woman meets in social situations or while out on a date. According to her, strangers are only responsible for 1% of rapes.
7. Canada
In Canada, the number of reported cases of sexual assault among all violent offenses to the police has rapidly increased. The Huffington Post reports that 460,000 sexual assaults occur nationwide each year. According to reports, 29 sexual assault instances are reported as crimes and 33 out of 1,000 cases are submitted to the police.
Throughout their lives, one in four women in North America will experience the agony of rape. Eleven percent of women suffer physical harm as a result of torture. Statistics show that only 6 percent of instances are reported to the police. The majority of attacks take place in the victim's home, over 80% of victims are female, and 80% of attackers are the victim's relatives and family. The most alarming statistic is that 83% of women with disabilities will experience sexual assault at some point in their lives. Girls make up 17% of all victims of sexual assault, while boys under 16 make up 15%.
6. New Zealand
The truth about rape in New Zealand was made public in 2013 by the Roast Busters incident. A group of young males from West Auckland who went by the name "Roast Busters" are accused of trying to get minor girls drunk so they could be gang-raped.
New Zealand has a considerably higher prevalence of sexual assault than the global norm, according to a survey published in the British medical magazine The Lancet. With 16.4% of the population being female, it ranked the nation third, behind only Australia.
An attack involving sexual violence occurs in New Zealand every two hours, according to the Minister of Justice Publication Report. According to current statistics, one in three girls and one in six boys are at risk of experiencing sexual abuse before the age of sixteen.
The number of sexual assaults doubled at schools and increased by 15% in a single year. In New Zealand, just 9% of sexual offenses are recorded (registered by the police). Just 13% of all recorded cases result in a conviction. 91 percent of rapes either go undetected or the victims are coerced into not reporting the crime by the police. The Herald of New Zealand.

In India, sexual assault and rape are major issues. Since 2010, there has been a 7.5% increase in crimes against women, according to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB). In India, a nation of more than 1.2 billion people, there were 33,707 recorded rapes in 2013, up from 24,923 in 2012. Most victims of rape are between the ages of 18 and 30. Roughly one in three rape victims are younger than 18, and one in 10 are younger than 14. Every twenty minutes, a woman is raped in India.
Among Indian cities, New Delhi has the most recorded rape crimes, according to 2013 data. Four rape cases were reported in the city on average last year. Mumbai (391), Jaipur (192), Pune (171), and New Delhi (1,636) had the most rape cases overall. With an average of 11 rapes per day, Madhya Pradesh has the highest rate of any state. The states with the most rape instances were Madhya Pradesh (4,335 cases), Rajasthan (3,285), Maharashtra (3,063), and Uttar Pradesh (3,050).
Furthermore, every day in the nation, 93 women are raped. Most of the perpetrators are known to the victims—31,807 (94%) of the accused were known to the victims, including parents (539), neighbors (10782), other known individuals (18171), and relatives (2315).
In India and around the world, the majority of rapes go undetected. Mihir Srivastava claims that 90% of rapes in India go unreported, while Madiha Kark says that 54% of rape cases are unreported.
4. England and Wales
In the UK, rape is not a crime that is gender neutral. Only men are capable of committing this crime against a human. Additionally, the UK has not yet adopted the practice of designating as rape activities other than penetration with a penis (such as penetration with an object or finger), which is a tendency seen in many other nations.
According to a 2013 report by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), Office for National Statistics (ONS), and Home Office titled "An Overview of Sexual Offending in England and Wales," there are roughly 85,000 rape victims in England and Wales annually, consisting of 73,000 females and 12,000 males, or roughly 230 cases per day. One in five women had been victims of sexual violence since they were sixteen, according to the survey. View the data tables, a summary, or the entire report.
The BBC says that as overall crime in England and Wales declines, the number of rapes reported to and recorded by police is at its highest level ever, up by 29%.
A third of girls and 16 percent of boys have suffered sexual assault, and up to 250,000 teenage girls are abused at any given moment, according to an NSPCC survey on young people (those between the ages of 13 and 18). Compared to women in other age groups, rape and sexual assault rates were greater among females aged 18 to 24.
Rape offense is 1.2 times more common among non-students than among students. While non-students were more likely to be at home, female students were more likely to be victims of rape or sexual assault while they were away from home. The prevalence of rape and sexual assault victimization among rural females was nearly double that of non-students.
Rape Crimes in American Prisons:
The Department for Justice reports that 216,000 inmates are raped annually in the United States, with more males than women assaulted there. Sweden appears to be one of the world's most unsafe places for women.
Furthermore, Sweden has Europe's highest rape rate. The Swedish police received reports of 63 rape instances per 100,000 people, according to the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention.(Brå).
