Cafe-Hopping in RURAL Indonesia! 🇮🇩 Payakumbuh, West Sumatra

We conclude this amazing Indonesian food series in West Sumatra by exploring the valleys around the town of Payakumbuh. This area is lined with lush greenery and incredibly scenic little resto-cafes, serving delicious Indonesian food. Okay maybe not necessarily the most authentic food I've had in Indonesia, as these places cater to young people preferring international or fusion-style food. Still, I had a delicious time trying some staple indonesian delicacies, such as Ayam Madura and Mie Bakso Ayam.

In the evening, I stayed in the village of Payakumbuh, which is not only known for being the place where Rendang was invented (!), but also for having a nice evening street food scene. I sat down for some Sate Padang (as if I haven't had enough sate in this trip lol); however, the sate in Payakumbuh is called "Danguan-Danguan", and in contrast with the sate found in Padang, has more of a yellow colour, for its use of turmeric. Moreover the meat is marinated in coconut, which gives it a yummy faintly sweet taste!

Before going back to the hotel I sat down at the famous Martabak Mesir H.Wan, for a classic of Indonesian Food: Martabak! This is a panfried pancake which can be filled with literally anything you want.

Here is the location of all the places I visited:

This is a travel for food channel and I enjoy eating street food around the world! Eating street food from different countries is what keeps me alive :D
