One night in the winter of 1958, a pregnant young woman was getting ready for bed, when she heard a sudden, loud knock at her front door. She walked out of the bathroom and looked across the room to the glass sliding door that led to the front of her property, and she was immediately disappointed at who she saw standing there. But regardless, she wrapped her robe tightly around her and walked over to see what they wanted. Minutes later, one of the worst crimes in California history would be committed. And at the end of the trial, more history would be made when the judge in this case handed down a sentence that was so harsh, it has yet to be repeated in the state of California.
