Magnus Carlsen Disqualified from Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship For Wearing Jeans & Violating FIDE Dress Code

Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen was disqualified from the Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship for breaching the dress code by wearing jeans. The chess governing body, International Chess Federation (FIDE) said that they fined Carlsen $200 and gave him time to change. But Carlsen refused to comply with the dress code. FIDE's Vice President, Viswanathan Anand, stated that Carlsen's refusal left them with little choice but to disqualify him. Carlsen, 34, who has won the World Rapid Chess Championship five times and the World Blitz Championship seven times, mocked the decision with a social media post by showing off his jeans with an "Outfit Of The Day or OOTD" post. Rival Hikaru Nakamura sparked a debate online, while German Grandmaster Elli Paehtz also reacted. Carlsen has set a historic 125-game unbeaten streak, the longest in chess history.
