Sydney Harbour Bridge Opening - Strange Observation

Just a quick look at something I thought was very strange that took place at the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
As we know there was much celebration and fanfare, along with the Captain de Groot slashing of the ribbon incident blah blah etc. A smaller similar ribbon-cutting ceremony on the bridge's northern side by North Sydney's mayor, Alderman Primrose, was also carried out. What I didn't know was at the same time the ribbon was officially cut by premier Jack Lang at the southern end of the bridge another ribbon was cut in the centre of the bridge .. but not by human hands .. most interesting when considering what we now know of the esoteric values imbued within bridge.
