The lion is one of the largest animals of the cat family. It lives in parts of Africa and in the Indian state of Gujarat. They are the largest predator in Africa. Lions live in prides. They can be 2 metres long and weigh 225 kilos. In the past, lions were found almost all over the world. Lions are often found in savannahs, but also in semi-deserts and dry forests. They are endangered due to habitat destruction and human poaching. Lions mostly hunt at night. They hunt various ungulates such as antelopes, gazelles and buffaloes as well as other predators such as hyenas and jackals. The lion is often called the king of beasts because it is a very majestic and strong animal.
