In this video we make potassium iodide with potassium hydroxide and iodine. We weighed out 3.37 grams of potassium hydroxide initially, but later in the experiment added an additional 0.5 grams. The iodine weighed 7.68 grams. Potassium iodide is very useful and is employed in well known reactions, as well as in analytical chemistry. It also has applications in medicine and can be found in some disaster preparedness kits. In a future video, we may explore some of the properties of the potassium iodide we made.
