India’s Former PM Dr Manmohan Singh Passes Away At 92, Funeral Tomorrow

Dr. Manmohan Singh, India’s former Prime Minister and a stalwart of Indian politics, passed away at the age of 92 in New Delhi. He was undergoing treatment for age-related medical conditions and was hospitalised after losing consciousness. Despite immediate resuscitative measures at home, he could not be revived. A two-time Prime Minister (2004-2009) and Finance Minister in 1991, Dr. Singh is celebrated as the architect of India’s 1990s economic liberalisation. Having retired from the Rajya Sabha earlier this year after 33 years of service, his passing marks the end of an era. Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the loss, calling him one of India’s “most distinguished leaders.” Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi described him as a mentor and guide. Dr. Singh is survived by his wife and three daughters. His funeral will be held tomorrow in New Delhi.
