Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov delivered a series of bold statements during a press conference on December 26, 2024, outlining Moscow's firm stance on the Ukraine conflict and its broader geopolitical ambitions.

Lavrov dismissed the possibility of a truce in Ukraine, describing it as a "path to nowhere," and emphasized that Russia would not settle for mere talks on the conflict’s resolution. He stressed that any future agreements must include safeguards to ensure they cannot be violated.

Criticizing the Minsk Accords, Lavrov accused the United States of undermining the UN Security Council-backed agreements, stating that they were "trampled on" with American backing.

Lavrov also reiterated Russia’s view that the populations of Crimea, Donbass, and Novorossiya, which Moscow considers part of its territory, will never fall under the control of the Ukrainian government, which he labeled as a "Nazi" regime.

These territories' incorporation into Russia, he pointed out, is enshrined in the Russian Constitution, and any resolution efforts must address the root causes of the crisis. Shifting focus to broader international relations, Lavrov warned that Western efforts, particularly those spearheaded by the United States, are aimed at eliminating competitors like Russia and China.

However, he expressed Russia’s readiness to engage in dialogue with Western representatives, provided they acknowledge this geopolitical reality.

Finally, Lavrov spoke on Russia’s intent to resume economic cooperation and dialogue with the new Syrian authorities, reinforcing Russia’s ongoing strategic involvement in the Middle East.

These remarks highlight Russia's resolute position in global geopolitics, as it navigates its complex relationships with the West and its continued influence in conflicts like Ukraine and Syria.
