Amazing ACEHNESE Cuisine! 🇮🇩 Indonesian Food Tour in Banda Aceh!

In 2022 I traveled to Kota Banda Aceh, a city in the Northern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia, to try some unexplored yet incredible type of Indonesian food, the Acehnese cuisine! Banda Aceh is unfortunately known to have been at the epicentre of the 2004 tsunami, suffering extreme lives loss and destruction. In this Indonesia food vlog I wanted to pay homage to this beautiful part of Sumatra, which is often neglected by food and travel vloggers.

One of the dishes that I was most looking forward to trying was the famous Mie Aceh, a dish of delicious crab noodles of which there is a dry and soupy version. I went for the latter and oh boy... those noodles swimming in that explosive concoction of spicy and crabby flavour! The pieces of crab in those noodles were so yummy, filled with egg inside!
In the same restaurant I tried 2 other classic Indonesian dishes, Sie Reuboh and Adam Tangkap. I have to say that the first dish won me over big time: incredibly delicious beef meat, first boiled then deep fried and garnished with fried coconut and onions. The combinations of flavours in this one, as well as the extreme tenderness of the meat were worth the trip to Aceh alone!

After this we headed to the centre of Banda Aceh to visit the famous Tsunami museum, which was built after the disastrous event. Learning about the tragedy witnessed by the Acehnese people here was a very touching experience which I’ll never forget.

Finally, we go to one last restaurant, for an ultimate Achenese food spread! Here I tried a variety of colorful curries, including fish, beef, chicken and vegetable curries. You really don’t want to miss this!
This is a travel for food channel and I enjoy eating street food around the world! Eating street food from different countries is what keeps me alive :DIn 2022 I traveled to Kota Banda Aceh, a city in the Northern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia, to try some unexplored yet incredible type of Indonesian food, the Acehnese cuisine!
