LONTONG MEDAN 🇮🇩 Indonesian Beloved Savoury Breakfast

The city of Medan, in North Sumatra, has an incredible indonesian street food scene and one of the place they absolutely recommend is 'Lontong Kak Lin', which specializes in Lontong Medan. This is a staple of the indonesian cuisine, a savoury street food breakfast made up of compressed rice cakes (the lontong) swimming in a rich and savoury coconutty curry. This is topped in a variety of fancy ways, depending on your preferences, but typically there is a source of protein (meat, fish, beans), crispy crackers (kerupuk mie) on top, a portion of noodles and probably something else.

Thanks to Nadya, in this food vlog I could also try for the first time some other indonesian food treats, including the famous Medan satay which included quail egg skewers, chicken liver and my absolute favourite, the satay jengkol! This is essentially a bean that makes your breath and your pee smell quite bad but it's all worth it! We also try the Lupis, a sweet breakfast treat made of sticky rice swimming in palm sugar and grated coconut!
