State of nature
Hobbes believed that the state of nature was a place where violent death was most likely to occur. He believed that people should seek peace, but if that wasn't possible, they should use the advantages of war.
The future
Hobbes's ideas undermined the possibility of imagining a new future, regardless of the means used to reach it. He believed that people owed unquestioning obedience to the sovereign, and that it was unjust to question the sovereign's arrangements.
Globalized world
In the 21st century, some say that the security of individuals may be tied to a stable international order. Hobbes might have believed that states have an obligation to intervene abroad to prevent humanitarian disasters or crimes against humanity.
