Notes:
When tickets went onsale back in May, I was able to acquire seats in 101, row Upright near the aisle closest to 102. Fellow taper ironchef had recommended these seats a few years ago and they have since been my go to for sound. However, on this night, the speaker diagram had changed and we did not have a side stack facing 101. I didnt panic too much as I had already checked ticketmaster before the show to see what unsold seats there may be around me in case of an emergency.
Well, this was an emergency. Thankfully, row V in 102 was empty a few hours before the show. Then, it was no longer available after doors had opened. Very curious.
I kept an eye on it and it only filled 6 or 7 seats of the 20 in the row by 805pm. I quickly relocated right before the lights went down and sat in my new seat hoping and praying no one would come. This seat was roughly 16 seats + an aisle down from my original seat in 101 and was in perfect line with the corner stack. The seat also provided a much better view, which was a bonus. I also realized after the show had finished the seats in 102 were twice as much as they were in 101, possibly due to 101 being a slightly obstructed side view! I was not about to leave Nationwide Arena without doing my best to capture the final Genesis appearance in Ohio. Not to mention, this was my first and only time seeing them!
I wanted to have this to cherish forever. As far as how the show went, it was tremendous! I had seen Phil twice (in 2018 and 2019) and had noticed his vocal range had been limited while now performing from a stool. As he did on that tour, Phil did great with what he had to offer. He is a true entertainer, and as the greats usually do, learned to make the right adjustments to his singing to make the best of what he has left. The man is an absolute legend and it was an honor getting to see him perform one final time. Not to mention for an almost 71 year old man who is now physically limited to go out on a world tour (that he doesn't HAVE to do), with COVID-19 still an issue - speaks volumes. He thanked his fans at the end of the night for all the years of support and he meant it. Outside
of performing with his son Nicholas (on drums), I do truly believe this tour was for all of us. I never imagined Genesis would perform again after 2007. How lucky were we? Please turn this one up and immerse yourself.
Recording notes: I did have a screamer and a whistler behind me and did my best to remove them using iZotope RX7 between songs. They did shut up during the music - thank god! The band intros were the absolute worst! I also removed some loud nearby claps when necessary.
