X Xplained: Managing Graphic Content on Social Media - Tips for a Better Feed

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS VIDEO OF NYC WOMAN ON FIRE 🔥 FOR THE 100TH TIME?

I’ve noticed a surge of graphic content on my feed, despite explicitly asking X not to show me this type of material.

Why is this happening?

The incentives for creators play a big role. Many post shocking clips and images—like the recent case of a woman set on fire by a migrant in NYC—because it’s provocative and drives engagement.

Some creators intentionally avoid tagging their posts as “sensitive content,” knowing it might limit their reach. While I see this as anti-user behavior, the goal here isn’t to call out those accounts. On social media, people will do whatever it takes for clicks.

Sometimes X steps in, adding or removing sensitive content labels, but ultimately, it’s up to me to manage what reaches my feed. Personally, I don’t want to see graphic violence, war zones, or endless eulogies. While I have empathy, it’s important to set boundaries—even for that.

In this episode of X Xplained, Misha from the GM Xperience dives into the psychology behind this behavior and shares practical steps to help you reclaim your feed and peace of mind.
