Danny Kurtzman, Brett Dier and Jessica Parker Kennedy star in a movie that’s about much more than one disabled person.
Full disclosure: I am partially disabled.
My partial physical disability limits my activity to a certain extent, but I can still move around my apartment, walk with a cane, and drive my car. Walking with a cane, though, has made me more aware of how the population at large treats disabled people.
Some strangers, including a number of my neighbors, have shown great kindness toward me. For the most part, however, they don’t stop to get to know me. They see my partial disability, and they respond to what they see, often in a kind way, yet they usually don’t see past my cane, to the person that I am.
In Good Bad Things, Danny Kurtzman plays Danny, a man with a physical disability. His particular physical disability is very obvious, as it affects his entire body. Really, it’s impossible for anyone who sees him to ignore his disability entirely.
Yet his best friend and business partner, Jason (Brett Dier), who is also Danny’s caretaker and housemate, looks past his disability. They are friends because their personalities are compatible; they can joke with each other and also be serious with each others. They are absolutely confident that what is discussed in private will be kept private.
Danny runs the business side of their boutique design firm, while Jason runs the creative side. The company is running on fumes, though, and desperately needs a new client, a dating app. Neither is inclined to use a dating app for themselves; Jason has no problem lining up a series of one-night stands, while Danny is still recovering from a past painful breakup.
Still, Danny feels the need to research the service so they can make a good pitch to the potential client. Reluctantly, he downloads the app; certain that no one would be interested if he reveals his disability on the app. To his surprise and immediate suspicion, he matches with Madi (Jessica Parker Kennedy), a gorgeous, cheerful, fully-abled photographer who is nursing emotional wounds from past relationships.
Yet, is Madi hiding some sort of secret agenda? And can she truly see beyond Danny’s disability?
Directed by Shane D. Stanger, who is credited for the original screenplay alongside Danny Kurtzman, Good Bad Things is frank about Danny’s disability, without pushing the viewer’s face into anything profoundly upsetting. Simultaneously, it refuses to sentimentalize or gloss over any of the challenges that he faces on a daily basis.
Instead, the film places a disabled person at center stage; Danny Kurtzman is not an actor who is pretending to be disabled with the help of physical or visual effects; he is an actor who is disabled, yes, but also an entrepreneur, a model, and an advocate for the disabled community. All these truths bleed into the character, and allow the film to take flight into the realm of extremely relatable comedies, dramas, and romances.
Brett Dier and Jessica Parker Kennedy nail what could be viewed as stereotypical characters: Best Friend, Romantic Interest. They go far beyond those easy descriptions by providing a welcome depth of humanity to their roles, creating people who are warm and likable and relatable. Of course they are the type of people Danny would want — and need — in his life.
Let’s be frank: we are all disabled, to one extent or another. In Good Bad Things, Danny Kurtzman stands up, opens his heart, calls for change, and gives a wonderful performance as an imperfect man who wants love in his life. As do we all.
The film opens Thursday, August 15, in Dallas AMC movie theaters as part of a nationwide release. For more information about the film,

Rest assured, The Flash‘s Barry and Iris will have plenty of time to get to know their speedster daughter-from-the-future.
Jessica Parker Kennedy will be a series regular for Season 5 of the CW hit, TVLine has learned, after making a handful of scattered-yet-provocative appearances during Season 4 — all leading to the finale reveal that her Mystery Girl is WestAllen’s offspring Nora.
Earlier this month, it was announced that The Flash had promoted both Danielle Nicolet and Hartley Sawyer to series regulars for the coming season, as Cecile and Ralph.
Kennedy first popped up on The Flash during last December’s multi-show, multi-night crossover event, when Nora covertly approached groom-to-be Barry at his and Iris’ ill-fated church wedding. She then resurfaced sporadically throughout the season, usually at Jitters and always dropping clues with which fans formulated theories as to the Mystery Girl’s identity.
With her two most recent appearances, viewers realized that the character was a speedster and then, at the close of the season finale, that she is the grown-up version of the daughter Barry and Iris apparently are fated to have. Nora ended the season by sharing that she is worried that she has made a big mistake, presumably by traveling to the past to observe her parents’ lives.
Kennedy’s previous TV credits include Black Sails, Colony, 90210, The Secret Circle and Smallville (as Plastique).
The Flash will air the usual Tuesdays at 8/7c this fall (premiere date TBA), once again leading into Black Lightning.

Early life
Kennedy was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the child of an Afro-Canadian father and a Jewish European mother, part Italian and part Russian.[2] Growing up, Kennedy says there were very few people of colour around, and she was friends with the sole black girl at her school. She had gravitated to friendships with other black people later as a means of finding community.[3] Kennedy was raised Jewish.[4]
Career
Kennedy portrayed supervillain Plastique in the television series Smallville, the role of Tami in the 2008 comedy film Another Cinderella Story and the recurring character of Natalee on the 2007 television series Kaya on MTV.[5]
Kennedy was originally cast in the J. J. Abrams-produced 2010 spy drama series Undercovers as the younger sister of the female lead (played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw)[6] but was later replaced by Mekia Cox.[7] Kennedy played Melissa Glaser in the CW series The Secret Circle,[8] until the show was cancelled after one season in May 2012. Kennedy was cast as the ambitious Nassau prostitute named Max on the Starz TV show Black Sails. In 2017, Kennedy joined the CW's Arrowverse, appearing primarily on the live-action series The Flash. Her character appeared throughout the fourth season and was eventually revealed as Nora West-Allen,[9] and was promoted to series regular for the fifth season using the superhero name XS.[10][11] She then returned in recurring capacities for seasons seven and eight.[12] She appeared as a guest star in the 3rd season of the sketch comedy TV series I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson in 2023. Kennedy appeared in a guest role as Medusa in the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.[13]
Personal life
She is married to Israeli-American actor Ronen Rubinstein. They reside in Los Angeles. Parker Kennedy expressed encouragement for him coming out as bisexual in 2021.[14] They married in August 2022, with a Jewish wedding ceremony.[4] They welcomed their first child, Boydd Parker-Rubinstein, on September 29th, 2024.[15]

Development
While filming for Nerkonda Paarvai in early 2019, Adhik Ravichandran had met and narrated a script to Ajith Kumar, who agreed to act in the film but wanted to wait until the producers were finalised before making an announcement.[2] In the meantime, Ajith worked on Valimai (2022) and Thunivu (2023), while Adhik finished Bagheera and Mark Antony (both 2023).[3][4] In October 2023, Suresh Chandra, the actor's manager, confirmed that discussions were going on for Adhik to direct Ajith's 63rd film.[5] That November, he confirmed the project, tentatively titled AK63.[6] The project was funded by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar's Mythri Movie Makers, marking their first Tamil venture. The company made a public announcement on 14 March 2024, with the official title Good Bad Ugly, a reference to the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966).[7]
The film was made on a production budget of ₹270 crore (US$32 million), and Ajith was reported to receive ₹165 crore (US$20 million) as his remuneration.[1][8][9] Originally planned to be shot in the Tamil language only, Adhik stated that they are considering shooting significant portions of the film in Telugu as well.[10] The technical crew includes cinematographer Abinandhan Ramanujam, editor Vijay Velukutty, costume designer Anu Vardhan, and stunt choreographers Supreme Sundar and Kaldian Vodenchardy.[11] Adhik co-wrote the film's script along with Ravi Kandasamy and Harish Manikandan.[12]
Casting
Ajith reportedly lost kilograms of weight for his character and would sport two different looks.[13][14] Trisha Krishnan was cast as the lead female, collaborating opposite Ajith for the sixth time following Ji (2005), Kireedam (2007), Mankatha (2011), Yennai Arindhaal (2015) and Vidaamuyarchi (2025).[15] Sunil was cast in an important role, collaborating with Adhik for the second time after Mark Antony,[16] whilst Rahul Dev was also cast in an important role, after having previously acted with Ajith in Vedalam (2015).[17] In early October, Prasanna announced his participation.[18] Later the same month, Arjun Das did the same.[19] Prabhu and Yogi Babu were present during the film's preliminary shooting, confirming their presence in the film.[20][21]
Filming
Principal photography was initially scheduled to begin in June 2024.[22] However, due to filming schedule of Vidaamuyarchi in late May was scheduled in the United Arab Emirates,[23] the first schedule instead began on 9 May in Hyderabad.[24] A fight sequence, choreographed by Supreme Sundar, was filmed at first, according to reports.[25] The schedule was completed within a month on 9 June.[26] Although initial plans were to go to South America for the second schedule,[27] it took place in Spain instead. During this schedule, however, photos and videos of Ajith were leaked to the social media platforms.[28] In late-November, production moved to the United Kingdom as a part of the major schedule.[29] Filming wrapped in mid-December.[30]
Music
The soundtrack is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, in his third collaboration with Adhik after Trisha Illana Nayanthara (2015) and Mark Antony (2023); second with Ajith after Kireedam (2007). Prakash replaced the previously announced Devi Sri Prasad.[31][32]
Release
Theatrical
Good Bad Ugly is scheduled to release theatrically on 10 January 2025, coinciding with the occasion of Pongal.[33] Apart from the original Tamil language, it is also scheduled to release in the Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam languages.[10] After the producers of Vidaamuyarchi announced that their film would release during the Pongal weekend,[34] the release of Good Bad Ugly was facing uncertainty as Naveen Yerneni did not confirm or deny any new release window.[35]
Distribution
Romeo Pictures bought the distribution rights of the film in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.[36]
Home media
The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film were purchased by Netflix for ₹95 crore.[37]
