This 10-YEAR-OLD dating show is ILLEGAL... | Lah Mike does "Pop the Balloon" with rapper Lil RT

"Pop The Balloon Or Find Love" is a popular digital speed dating show format in which a contestant is brought out to face a line of singles, each one holding a red balloon. If a balloon-holding participant objects to what they are seeing from the contestant, they can pop their balloon to "reject" them.

The format name originates from YouTuber Arlette Amuli, whose adaptation - although not being the first (videos from channels such as Nigerian creator FokTV date back to as early as August 2022) - has amassed great popularity on YouTube and TikTok since its debut in December 2023, with several clips, memes and jokes going viral and receiving millions of views on social media. Channels have also used titles such as 'Take Me Out' to describe their editions of the show, and group channels such as the Sidemen, made up of popular channels such as KSI, Miniminter, W2S and Vikkstar123, have also made videos on the format on 'Sidemen Sunday'.

In this Heliophobian video, we will be reacting to a take on the series by Los Angeles-based vlogger Lah Mike - who has over half a million subscribers - who has sparked outrage from individuals such as commentary YouTuber AugustTheDuck, due to his take on the "Pop the Balloon" trend, which has been controversial on account of the fact that his versions have featured 10-year-old American rapper Lil RT interacting questionably with grown women.

Previous versions of his series have featured celebrities such as Ray J, rappers Lil Boosie and DaBaby, and popular YouTuber PrettyBoyFredo. Tonight, we question why these people are participating in a quite obviously bad challenge and why so many people who were in a place to stop it didn't.

Lil RT, who was born on June 3, 2014, is a US-based musician from the West Atlanta neighborhood of Bankhead. His "sinister" parents have been criticised by major figures such as conservative author Candace Owens on account of very provocative themes (for a person of his age) being discussed.

Lil RT's debut single, "60 Miles", was released in October 2023 with fellow artist Batmaan Jay. The song features themes of street life and urban struggles, and quickly went viral on YouTube, amassing over 4 million views within a few months. He released a sequel, titled "60 Miles 2" with Florida rapper SCY Jimm in October 2023, and followed up with "60 Miles 3" featuring Doe Boy. He appeared on the streams of popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat between October and November 2023.
