Michelle Stirling did a series of documentaries on Western Canadian history in the 1980’s under the research supervision of Dr. Hugh Dempsey (Potai’na) then curator of the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. She also wrote a rebuttal paper to Sean Carleton’s “I don’t need anymore education…” which was his peer-reviewed critique of Senator Lynn Beyak, published in “Settler Colonial Studies” journal. Her paper is titled “Settler Historians need More Education, Less Ideology.” Michelle is a regular columnist for Lasqueti's monthly newspaper "Our Isle & Times." She is responding to a recent Zoom event for Lasqueti and Powell River where Prof. Carleton presented his case on denialism, referencing his paper on Senator Beyak. Michelle has recently produced a short documentary entitled "The Bitter Roots of Sugarcane", which debunks National Geographic's "Sugarcane".
