2-Alarm Apartment fire displaces nine residents kills two cats, near Harry Reid Intl. Airport

A fire broke out at a two-story residential building on Saturday afternoon, affecting 10 units and displacing nine residents, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 2:28 p.m. at 840 King Richard Avenue near East Russell and Hacienda.

When crews arrived they encountered flames coming from multiple units.

Officials say, they initially adopted a defensive approach, crews switched to an offensive attack and reported a fire knockdown in the first-floor unit by 2:44 p.m.

Primary and secondary searches of the building revealed no people inside, but two cats were found deceased.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported, according to CCFD.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and damage is estimated at $250,000.

NV Energy was called to secure utilities, while the American Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced residents.

The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is currently assisting 7 residents from 4 apartments displaced by today’s fire at 840 King Richard Ave., Las Vegas. Four other apartments were left without power; however, officials stated that the power would be back on soon. If the power is not restored, we will assist those residents as well.
