The Fig in Bible Prophesy
Figs
Much of the Bible uses agriculture and horticulture in allegory, metaphors and Hebraisms that say much more with fewer words.
The hidden meaning behind the word FIG
G # 4808 suké: Fig tree Original Word: συκῆ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine Transliteration: suké
Pronunciation: soo-KAY Phonetic Spelling: (soo-kay')
Definition: Fig tree Meaning: a fig-tree.
Word Origin: Derived from the Greek word σῦκον (sukon), meaning "fig."
Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries: - H8384 תְּאֵנָה (te'enah): Fig tree
- H6291 פַּג (pag): Unripe fig
Usage: The term "suké" refers to the fig tree, a common fruit-bearing tree in the Mediterranean region. In the New Testament, it is often used both literally and metaphorically. The fig tree is frequently mentioned in parables and teachings of Jesus, symbolizing Israel, spiritual fruitfulness, or judgment.
Cultural and Historical Background: The fig tree was a staple in ancient Israel, valued for its fruit, shade, and wood. It was a symbol of prosperity and peace, as seen in the expression "every man under his vine and fig tree" (Micah 4:4). The fig tree's fruiting cycle, with its early and late figs, made it a useful metaphor for spiritual readiness and judgment.
Matthew 21:1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples (House of the Fig)
Below is a direct reference to the sons of Cain the Kenites
Matthew 23:35 That upon you (Bad figs) may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
Below is the first mention of the Fig in the Bible
Genesis 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
The encounter in the Garden of Eden is explained in the Parable of the tares and wheat by Jesus Himself. This encounter made Adam and Eve aware that they were naked so they tried to hide their private parts. The fig is established here as meaning; “Things Hidden”. This theme will carry itself throughout the entire Bible.
The following verses in Genesis 3 will go on to explain the birth of Cain first and Able second. They were fraternal twins. Cain represents the Tare and Able represents the Wheat as described in the parable. Adam and Eve both had intercourse with satan and this is why they became aware of their private parts and tried to hide themselves from God.
Matthew 13:24-30 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. ...
Jesus gives a simple explanation of who the tares and the wheat are below;
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
Here is another witness to this encounter in the Garden of Eden between satan, Eve and Adam and Cain was the result of this unholy union that God forbade.
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (Cain was the first murder from the beginning)
If you fail to understand this parable much of the Bible will unclear to you.
The tares are responsible for much of the havoc in the world throughout the ages. They are the synagogue of satan or the immediate family of satan as described in Revelation 2:9 and 3:9
The faultless Churches of Smyrna and Philadelphia taught the identity of the tares. The very name “Smyrna” means Capri Fig which is a good edible fig. Those who are aware of the true meaning of the parable of the tares and wheat have been given the Key of David.
This means you have been given the ability to trace the genealogy of the tares and the wheat throughout the Bible unlocking its many mysteries. The tares are the Kenites, the house of Rachab and Hemath.
You have also been given the Key to the Genealogy of Jesus Christ all the way back to Adam and Eve.
To further connect this theme you must connect the tares as being the bad figs and Judah being the good figs as described in Jeremiah 24 below.
Jeremiah 24:1 The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon. One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad. Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil. ...
The Lord wants us to be able to mark the sons of Cain just as the mark was placed upon him in Genesis 4:15.
NT
Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Matthew 21:19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. The fate of the sons of cain
Matthew 21:20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!
Matthew 21:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
Special emphasis on the fig in prophesy
Matthew 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
Israel would become a sovereign nation state again as predicted by the Prophet Jeremiah some 2000 years ago.
Jeremiah 24 The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon. One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad. Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil. ...
Jeremiah 29:17 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.
Revelation 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
These are Figs that are harvested out of season. I believe these untimely figs represent the fallen angels mentioned in Revelation 12:7-9
Isaiah 34:4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall
fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. (Revelation 6:13)
-The use of the Fig and the Vine is a sign of prosperity, sovereignty and also personal autonomy. The fig and the vine represents your personal disposition and what you believe and represent. Whose side are you on?

Micah 4:4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.
2 Kings 18:31 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:
Zechariah 3:10 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.
1 Kings 4:25 And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

The use of the Word “Vine”
Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries: - H1612 (גֶּפֶן, gephen): Refers to a vine, often used in the Old Testament to symbolize Israel or describe literal grapevines.
Usage: The term "ampelos" refers to a vine, particularly a grapevine, which is a plant that produces grapes. In the New Testament, it is used metaphorically to describe the relationship between Jesus and His followers, emphasizing the importance of remaining connected to Him for spiritual vitality and fruitfulness.
Cultural and Historical Background: In ancient Israel and the broader Mediterranean world, vineyards were a common sight and an essential part of the agricultural economy. Grapevines were cultivated for their fruit, which was used to produce wine, a staple in the diet and a significant element in religious and social rituals. The imagery of the vine was deeply embedded in Israelite culture, often symbolizing Israel itself, as seen in the Old Testament. This cultural backdrop enriches the metaphorical use of "ampelos" in the New Testament.
“Vine” derivative
halón: Threshing floor Original Word: ἁλών
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine Transliteration: halón
Pronunciation: hah-LONE Phonetic Spelling: (hal'-ohn)
Definition: Threshing floor Meaning: a threshing-floor.
Word Origin: Derived from the Greek verb ἁλίζω (halizō), meaning "to gather" or "to thrash."
Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries: - H1637 (גֹּרֶן, goren): Refers to a threshing floor, used in various Old Testament passages such as Genesis 50:10 and Ruth 3:2.
Usage: The term "halón" refers to a threshing floor, a flat surface where grain is separated from chaff. In biblical times, threshing floors were essential for agricultural societies, serving as a place for processing harvested grain. The term is used metaphorically in Scripture to denote judgment and separation, as well as a place of divine encounter.
Cultural and Historical Background: In ancient Israel, threshing floors were often located on elevated, windy sites to facilitate the winnowing process, where the wind would blow away the lighter chaff, leaving the heavier grain. Threshing floors were communal spaces and sometimes doubled as places for social gatherings and significant events. They were also seen as sacred spaces, as seen in the account of David purchasing the threshing floor of Araunah, which later became the site for Solomon's Temple (2 Samuel 24:18-25).
Béthphagé
G # 967 Original Word: Βηθφαγή
Part of Speech: Proper Noun, Indeclinable Transliteration: Béthphagé
Pronunciation: bayth-fag-AY
Phonetic Spelling: (bayth-fag-ay')
Meaning: Bethphage, a village in the neighborhood of Jerusalem, on the Mt. of Olives.
Word Origin: From Aramaic, combining "beth" (house) and "pag" (unripe fig)
Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries: While there is no direct Hebrew equivalent in Strong's Concordance, the components of the name can be linked to:
- H1004 (בֵּית, bayith): House
- H6291 (פַּג, pag): Unripe fig
Usage: Bethphage means "house of unripe figs." It is a small village mentioned in the New Testament, located near the Mount of Olives and close to Jerusalem. It is significant in the Gospel narratives as the place where Jesus instructed His disciples to find a donkey and colt for His triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Cultural and Historical Background: Bethphage was situated on the road from Jericho to Jerusalem, near Bethany. It was part of the route that Israelite pilgrims would take to enter Jerusalem, especially during the Passover. The village's name suggests it may have been known for fig trees, which were common in the region. The proximity to the Mount of Olives and Jerusalem made it a strategic location for Jesus' entry into the city, fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9
