USNavy:
This morning, an F/A-18 fighter aircraft from the USS Harry S. Truman was shot down over the Red Sea in what appears to be a case of friendly fire by the guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64). Both U.S. Navy pilots ejected safely.
The USS Gettysburg, part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on and hit the F/A-18. Both pilots were subsequently recovered safely.
"Both pilots were safely recovered. Initial assessments indicate that one of the crew members sustained minor injuries. This incident was not the result of hostile fire, and a full investigation is underway." -- USNI

AP News:
Two U.S. Navy pilots ejected and survived after their F/A-18 Super Hornet was mistakenly shot down by the USS Gettysburg in a friendly fire incident over the Red Sea.
One pilot sustained minor injuries.
The event occurred during U.S. airstrikes targeting Yemen’s Houthi rebels amid ongoing attacks on shipping in the region.

The Red Sea remains highly dangerous due to Houthi missile and drone assaults, which have targeted both military and civilian vessels since the Israel-Hamas conflict began in October 2023, the Associated Press has reported.
