Trump threatens to regain ‘full’ control of Panama Canal to combat ‘China’s influence’

Ahead of historic Jan 20, before returning to White House, President-elect Donald Trump has issued a major threat to Panama. Trump blasted Panama for the “exorbitant prices” fees it imposes on US and warned to demand ‘full’ control of the key commerce node. Incoming president fired off two Truth Social posts, emphasising the US’ role in the construction and sale of the Panama Cana. In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticised Panama’s fees as “ridiculous” framing the issue as one of national and financial security. He expressed concern over potential Chinese influence on the vital passage, asserted “will never let it fall into the wrong hands”. He further warned Panama Officials that if they did not adhere to the principles of original agreement, then US would seek full control. After president-elect Donald Trump’s barrage of threats, Panamanian officials have yet to respond.
