Ready to check back into The White Lotus? HBO has revealed the release date for Season 3 of its anthology hit, and it all kicks off Sunday, Feb. 16 at 9/8c, TVLine has learned.
Season 3 of Mike White’s series will take place at an exclusive Thai resort and follow the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week.
In the brand-new teaser, we catch glimpses of the new guests arriving to this new White Lotus location, as Natasha Rothwell‘s Belinda tells us she’s taking part in an exchange program, hence her relocation. There’s also plenty of booze-soaked nights, dancing, a gun and a near death — watch the clip embedded below.
In addition to Walton Goggins (Justified), Parker Posey (Lost in Space), Leslie Bibb (Popular), Blackpink’s Lisa (aka Lalisa Manobal) and Season 1 returnee Rothwell, the resort is welcoming plenty of new faces. Additional cast members include Carrie Coon (Fargo), Sarah Catherine Hook (Cruel Intentions), Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan (Bad Monkey), Patrick Schwarzenegger (The Staircase), Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education) and more. The White Lotus is an American black comedy drama anthology television series created by Mike White for HBO.[4][5] It follows the guests and employees of the fictional White Lotus resort chain, whose interactions are affected by their various psychosocial dysfunctions. The press release notes that "each passing day, a darker complexity emerges in these picture-perfect travelers, the hotel's cheerful employees, and the idyllic locale itself".[6] The first and second season are set in Hawaii and Sicily, respectively. The third season was filmed in Thailand.[7]
Intended as a 6-part limited series, The White Lotus premiered on July 11, 2021, to critical acclaim and high ratings. The show's success led to HBO renewing it as an anthology series; a second season premiered on October 30, 2022.[8] In November 2022, the series was renewed for a third season which is set to premiere on February 16, 2025.[9][10]
The series received critical acclaim. It was included on the American Film Institute's list of the ten best programs of 2021 and 2022, and it received various accolades, including 15 Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes.

Development
On October 19, 2020, HBO gave The White Lotus a limited series order that consisted of six episodes.[4] The series was created, written and directed by Mike White. White also serves as executive producer alongside David Bernad and Nick Hall.[38]
On August 10, 2021, HBO renewed the series for a second season,[39] which consists of seven episodes.[40]
On November 18, 2022, HBO renewed the series for a third season.[9] The third season's production was disrupted by the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, resulting in the release being pushed to 2025.[41][42]
Casting
Upon the limited series order announcement, Murray Bartlett, Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Daddario, Fred Hechinger, Jake Lacy, Brittany O'Grady, Natasha Rothwell, Sydney Sweeney, and Steve Zahn were cast to star.[43] On October 30, 2020, Molly Shannon, Jon Gries, Jolene Purdy, Kekoa Kekumano, and Lukas Gage joined the cast in recurring roles.[44]
Upon the announcement of the second season renewal, HBO announced that a predominantly new cast of characters would be focused on at another White Lotus property for the second season, though Mike White had stated there was a possibility for a few cast members from the first season to return as their characters.[45] On October 15, 2021, Coolidge was reported to be set to return for the second season.[46] In January 2022, Michael Imperioli, Aubrey Plaza, F. Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, Tom Hollander, and Haley Lu Richardson were confirmed to star in the second season.[18][19][14] In February 2022, Theo James, Meghann Fahy, Will Sharpe and Leo Woodall joined the cast for the season.[15] In March 2022, Beatrice Grannò, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Simona Tabasco joined the cast for the season.[16]
Upon the third-season renewal announcement, producers confirmed that there will be a new cast of characters in another White Lotus resort.[9] In April 2023, Rothwell was reported to be reprising her role as Belinda for the season.[47] In January 2024, it was announced that Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Dom Hetrakul, Tayme Thapthimthong, Carrie Coon, Miloš Biković, Christian Friedel, Morgana O'Reilly, Lek Patravadi, Shalini Peiris, Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Francesca Corney, Nicholas Duvernay, and Arnas Fedaravičius joined the cast for the season.[48][49][50][51][52] Biković was dropped from the cast on February 2 due to his support of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and was replaced with Julian Kostov.[53][54] In February 2024, Scott Glenn and Lalisa Manobal were cast.[55][56] In March 2024, Charlotte Le Bon joined the cast to replace Corney in a re-casting.[57]
Filming
Principal photography for the first season began in October 2020 in Hawaii under COVID-19 guidelines.[58] By November 21, 2020, the series was halfway through filming at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and was scheduled to film in December at locations around Maui.[59][60][61]
On January 20, 2022, the second season was reported to be filmed at the Four Seasons San Domenico Hotel [fr] in Taormina, Sicily, Italy;[62] on February 28, 2022, HBO confirmed that production had begun there.[40]
The third season was filmed in Thailand, in part due to the series receiving a $4.4 million tax incentive for filming there.[63] Filming began in February 2024, with locations including Bangkok, Phuket, and Ko Samui,[64][65][66][67] and wrapped in August 2024.[35]
Music
Chilean composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer was hired by White to score the first season.[68]
For the second season, Tapia de Veer collaborated with his manager Kim Neundorf to finish original compositions due to his own scheduling conflicts.[69] Singer Stephanie Osorio provided the vocals.[70]
Budget
According to Vulture, the costs of production for the second season remained at under US$3 million per episode, the same as the first season. Italy, where the second season was filmed, offers up to 40% tax credit to foreign productions taking place in the country.[71]
Release
The series premiered on July 11, 2021, on HBO and HBO Max.[5] In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, the series premiered on Sky Atlantic on August 16, 2021.[72] The second season premiered on October 30, 2022.[8] The third season is scheduled to premiere on February 16, 2025, with episodes airing weekly.[37][10][9]
Home media
The first season was released on DVD on September 13, 2022.[73]

Production
Development
On November 18, 2022, preceding the premiere of the second season, HBO renewed The White Lotus for a third season.[6] Following the second-season finale, series creator Mike White hinted that the third season would be set in Asia and invoke a "satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality", similar to how the first season focused on money, and the second season on sex.[7] The third season's production was disrupted by the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, resulting in the release being pushed to 2025.[8][9]
Casting
Upon the third-season renewal announcement, producers confirmed that there will be a new cast of characters in another White Lotus resort.[10] In April 2023, Natasha Rothwell was reported to be reprising her role as Belinda for the series' third season.[11] In January 2024, it was announced that Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Dom Hetrakul, Tayme Thapthimthong,[12] Carrie Coon,[13] Miloš Biković, Christian Friedel, Morgana O'Reilly, Lek Patravadi, Shalini Peiris,[14] Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood,[15] Francesca Corney, Nicholas Duvernay, and Arnas Fedaravičius joined the cast for the season.[16] Biković's casting was criticized by Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs over his support for Russia's invasion of the country; Biković was subsequently dropped from the cast on February 2, and replaced with Julian Kostov,[17][18] who will star in a recurring capacity.[5] In February 2024, Scott Glenn and Lalisa Manobal were cast in the season.[19][20] In March 2024, Charlotte Le Bon joined the cast to replace Corney in a re-casting.[21]
Filming
In March 2023, Variety reported that filming for the third season was likely to take place in one of the Four Seasons hotels in Thailand.[22] Honshu, Japan was scouted as a filming location by Mike White, but ultimately Thailand was chosen as the filming location for the third season due to the series receiving a $4.4 million tax incentive for filming in Thailand, while Japan does not have a film-incentive system.[23] Principal photography began in February 2024, with locations including Bangkok, Phuket, and Ko Samui,[24][25][26][27] and wrapped in August 2024.[3]
Release
The third season is scheduled to premiere on February 16, 2025, on HBO.[28][29]

Aimee Lou Wood
Wood in 2023
Born 1995 (age 28–29)
Stockport, Greater Manchester, England
Education Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (BA)
Occupation Actress
Years active 2016–present
Aimee Lou Wood (born 1995) is an English actress. After early stage roles in Mary Stuart (2016–2017) and People, Places and Things (2017), Wood made her screen debut on the Netflix series Sex Education (2019–2023), which won her a British Academy Television Award for Best Female Comedy Performance from two nominations. She subsequently had roles in the films The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021) and Living (2022), and then starred in the BBC Three comedy series Daddy Issues (2024). She performed in productions of Uncle Vanya in 2020 and Cabaret in 2023.
Early life and education
Aimee Lou Wood was born in1995[1] in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and grew up in Bramhall.[2] Her mother works for Childline and her father is a car dealer.[3][4] Her sister Emily Wood is a makeup artist.[5]
Following their parents' divorce, Wood attended Cheadle Hulme School.[6] She then took a foundation course at the Oxford School of Drama,[7] and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2017.[8]
She has mostly retained her regional accent.[9][10]
Career
During her time at RADA, Wood was involved in many productions, such as playing Margaret in a production of Scuttlers directed by Hannah Eidinow, and as Goody in Vinegar Tom, directed by Cressida Brown. She began her professional acting career in 2016 by working on stage productions, making her debut as a handmaiden in the play Mary Stuart,[11] performed at the Almeida Theatre in London until 2017.[12] Following this, she starred as Laura in the production People, Places and Things, a role that was performed numerous times by Wood on a tour across the UK.[13]
In 2019, Wood made her screen debut as Aimee Gibbs, a main character in the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education, where she co-stars alongside Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa and Gillian Anderson.[14][15] She had originally auditioned for the part of Lily, which was ultimately given to Tanya Reynolds,[8][14] but accepted the role of Aimee when she was offered it. The series went on to receive critical acclaim,[16][17] and Wood's performance earned praise.[18] At the 2021 British Academy Television Awards, she won the British Academy Television Award for Best Female Comedy Performance,[19] which is both her first accolade and her first award received from a major association;[20][21] she earned another nomination for the award at the 2022 British Academy Television Awards. Amidst her work on Sex Education, Wood has continued to take roles in theatre, reasoning that "I know a lot of screen actors who think they left it too long to go back on stage and now they have really bad stage fright."[22]
Wood (second from left) performing in the 2020 play Uncle Vanya.
In 2020, Wood played Jess in Hen, a short film directed by James Larkin.[23] That same year, she was cast in the pivotal role of Sonya in the production Uncle Vanya,[24] which was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Harold Pinter Theatre and obtained both a cinematic release as well as a BBC national release in the same year.[25][26] Uncle Vanya and Wood's performance was lauded by critics. On her portrayal of Sonya, WhatsOnStage wrote that "she is a glorious, kind, gentle girl ... Her attempts at cheerfulness in the face of so much crushing disappointment are almost unbearable. [Wood] positively shines."[27] Wood narrated Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, released 3 September 2020 by Penguin Audio.
In 2021, Wood joined the jury of the British Short Film Awards and announced the winner later that year.[28] She made her feature film debut as Claire Wain in the 2021 biographical film The Electrical Life of Louis Wain,[29][30] which earned positive reviews from critics. She landed her first lead film role opposite Bill Nighy in the Oliver Hermanus drama feature Living, a British remake of the 1952 Japanese film Ikiru, which premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and earned acclaim.[31][32]
Wood replaced Mia Goth for upcoming thriller film Sweet Dreams when she played Dorothy [33]
Personal life
Wood was in a relationship with her Sex Education co-star Connor Swindells, who in the series portrays Adam Groff, from January 2019[34] to sometime before March 2020.[35] She has struggled with her body image, revealing in a 2020 interview with Glamour magazine that "I have suffered with body dysmorphia my whole life [...] I remember before the first sex scene (in Sex Education), I thought, 'Right, okay. I'll start eating salads every day,' and I just didn't. That was such a turning point for me, making that decision to go, 'Actually, I'm not going to alter how my body looks before this scene because this is how my body looks.'"[36]
In light of the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, Wood was one of over two thousand to sign an Artists for Palestine open letter addressed to Joe Biden, President of the United States, calling for a ceasefire and accusing western governments of "not only tolerating war crimes but aiding and abetting them."[37]
