Syria's Rebel Leader Al-Jolani Commits Against Terrorism In "Very Productive" Meet With US Diplomats
Senior US diplomats visited Damascus on December 20. Led by top diplomat for West Asia at the State Department Barbara Leaf, the visiting US officials held "good" and "very productive" talks with Syria's de-facto leader Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani. The interim Syrian leader, who now goes by his birth name, Ahmed al-Sharaa, reportedly "came across as pragmatic" to the US officials. The United States decided to remove a $10 million bounty on his head after the interim leader committed against the use of Syrian soil for terrorism. "It was a good first meeting. We will judge by the deeds, not just by words," Leaf said in a briefing and reiterated the US' stand for an inclusive government in Syria. Meanwhile, as a large number of refugees return to their homes in Syria after former President Bashar al-Assad's ouster, the United Nations has warned the interim Syrian administration against an "incredibly fragile situation" on the ground.
