Russian sappers from the Karbyshev engineering battalion have integrated FPV drone technology into mining and demining operations, showcasing innovation in modern warfare tactics. These drones are being used to install and deactivate POM-2 anti-personnel fragmentation mines. Developed in the 1980s in the USSR, the POM-2 mine is notable for its 16-meter destructive radius and self-destruction mechanism, which activates after a set period ranging from 4 to 100 hours. Weighing 1,500 grams and containing 140 grams of explosives, the mine detonates upon contact with one of its four nylon threads, each extending up to 10 meters. The use of FPV drones in this context reflects a significant shift towards leveraging technology for precision and safety in hazardous environments.
