Many of us just got through a grueling 4 years of contending for freedom, contending for a campaign, contending for our children, our rights, our beliefs. Well tonight’s message is Becoming a True Contender.
‭‭Jude‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”
When we read this passage, we see that Jude started out to write to these believers about their common salvation, but was interrupted by the spirit of God and shifted focus to what was more important. The more important need was to exhort them about contending earnestly for the faith. He then says, which was once delivered to the Saints. What does that mean? The original version of Faith, not the watered down version that you have now.
The Lord expects a return on his investment. Just look at many of the parables. Parable of the Talents.
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭25‬:‭14‬-‭30‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
““For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his Lord’s money. After a long time the Lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’ He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’ “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ “But his Lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’”
https://bible.com/bible/114/mat.25.14-30.NKJV

‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
”But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.“
https://bible.com/bible/114/2co.9.6-7.NKJV

The Lord has left it up to us to decide what kind of harvest we want. If you plant 5 acres you aren’t going to reap off of 100.
In our life there is a foundation. Faith is a part of that foundation.
Matthew 7:24-27
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Foundation doesn’t stop the storms, it effects what happens in the storm. It upholds the structure.
V26 Hearing the Word is not the structure, doing the Word is where the foundation is laid. There are many people who know the Word of God, but it’s not in the knowing, it’s in the doing. It’s not enough to appreciate the Word.

The foundation matters. Not the pretty stuff. You ask a builder if they like a house and they will tell you about the foundation and the structure behind the pretty things.
The NCAA Football Playoffs are about to start. The best teams are going to contend for the Championship. There are many good teams, but now only the best will survive. Who will be the best. When you watch a football game, the only contenders are the ones who do the fundamentals the best. The foundational things.
We always have to be inspecting our foundation.
The pipeline facilitates our healing, our prosperity, our needs. Faith is an access to the power. We have to make sure nothing is clogging the pipeline up.
I sold a house in Michigan that I owned and they had to do an inspection of the foundation. They found a pipe that was being crushed by a tree root. Our faith is the pipeline we need to make sure is open. Things can clog it. Unforgiveness, offense, fear, doubt, unbelief. If we leave the wrong thing unattended it will grow. Offense left unattended will grow. Unforgiveness left unattended will grow.
Where are foundational things?
They are underground. The matters of the heart. Parable of the Sower. There are 4 types of ground, but only one that will produce. Faith grows in your heart, your spirit man. Not in your head, emotions, mind.
We are to renew the mind, so that our mind lines up with our spirit man.
I love faith. Faith is my part. Power is God’s part. There is never a shortage of power in our life. It’s God’s part. He is not short of the amount of power. It isn’t Scotty in the control room saying of heaven saying. “We need more power Captain!”
When I do my part of believing, faith, then His part of power can flow more in our life. We need to learn to be more skillful with our faith.
EX - a kid on a basketball team. You might be on the team but you have to train to be skillful.
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
https://bible.com/bible/114/rom.10.17.NKJV
When we hear the Word, the capacity for faith comes, but when we are a doer that’s when our faith is built and fortified.
EX - an athlete being in the gym doesn’t build his muscles. Doing the action of lifting is what builds strength. The resistance of that weight builds the muscle.
‭‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬, ‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
https://bible.com/bible/114/jas.2.14-17.NKJV
Different descriptions of faith:
Little Faith
Matthew 8:26: “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?”
Matthew 14:31: “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Matthew 16:8: “O you of little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you have no bread?”
Great Faith
Matthew 8:10: "Verily I say unto you, I have not found such great faith, no, not in Israel"
Growing Faith
Hebrews 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the [a]oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are [b]of full age, that is, those who by reason of [c]use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
2 Thess 1:3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other,
Romans 10:17 Faith comes by hearing
Little faith, great faith, growing faith.
Your faith groweth exceedingly. Faith comes by hearing, but it does not operate by hearing, it is not released by hearing, but by what we say and how we act.
We cannot conduct business with heaven without faith. The currency of heaven is faith.
EX - If you go into a store and want to buy something there is an exchange that has to happen. You want this thing, you have to bring your currency.

When we conduct business with heaven by faith it effects the business on earth. The difference with faith is that it doesn’t purchase anything. It was all purchased by the blood of Jesus on the cross. All we do is use our faith to lay hold of what was already purchased. Then that will show up in this realm. You can lay hold of things in this realm without money when you have heaven‘s currency. Because heaven will move and get things in your hands, bypassing natural currency when you have heaven‘s currency. Because once the currency of heaven is met, heaven gets involved. That means you can have things that you can’t pay for with natural currency. Don’t let money dismiss you from having what you want because faith includes you.
When a foundation is lacking, it determines how high a building it can hold. Your life is no different.
Faith always gets results. There is no such thing as a faith failure. Because faith and failure are opposites. If it seems you had a failure, then go back and have a foundation inspection. Did I have unforgiveness, bitterness, offense?
We cannot become ok with not receiving. If we don’t receive something we are praying about, it’s not on God’s part. Sometimes we slipped into worry, and don’t realize it. An inspection will reveal it. Faith ALWAYS receives! Every time. Every time Faith is released power flows.
“Since I learned how to pray, according to the word, I have never had a prayer go unanswered.”
Kenneth Hagin
That may sound astounding to us, but to heaven, it sounds astounding to have an unanswered prayer because heaven purchased everything we ever need. We are seated with Christ in heavenly places.
We shouldn’t get into the bad spiritual habit when we pray of thinking “if it happens great but if it doesn’t happen, oh well.“ That is a very bad habit to get into. I must go look into it and make an adjustment. What I’m believing, saying, acting.
‭‭James‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬ ‭AMPC‬‬
“The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].”
Our faith makes great power available.
‭‭Jude‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”
https://bible.com/bible/114/jud.1.3.NKJV
When we read this passage, we see that Jude started out to write to these believers about their common salvation, but was interrupted by the spirit of God and shifted focus to what was more important. The more important need was to exhort them about contending earnestly for the faith. He then says, which was once delivered to the Saints. What does that mean? The original version of Faith, not the watered down version that you have now.
Earnestly, Contend. These are very active words. We cannot passively pursue our faith and think that we are going to arrive at fullness.
If someone is earnest about something, they are Interested. If you are earnestly interested in a job or buying a house, you are more than slightly interested.
When you are greatly interested, you lay hold of great things.
When you are casually interested that is the measure of what you will lay hold of.
The word earnestly is talking about an interest level. We have to be interested in the things that Jesus spent His life to lay hold of for us!
We cannot be ok to NOT receive! If we are ok to not receive then there is a problem with my interest level.
We won’t have a robust faith by just floating along through life. The word contend is referring to an effort against something. It is not an effort against God, but against our adversary. Our opposition. We’re talking about an interest level here and I guarantee you that the devil is interested in your failure. The devil is interested in your defeat. Because he knows that he cannot win when Faith gets involved. He knows the only way he can win is if he can keep you in the mental arena. He wants you to battle with him in your mind and never with your spirit.
We are going to have to contend in order to get past the devil‘s opposition in our life.
Without people being interested, they will give up. Take a look around at the people you know. Many have given up.
EX - my wife would cheer at Josiah’s Track meets. She would scream at him to give it everything he has. To contend. The problem is that on race day, the only thing that you can give is directly tied to what you did when no one was looking not to what you do when everyone is looking.
My wife didn’t care if he lost, she just wanted him to give everything he had. She didn’t want him to give up what he could’ve had.
EX - YAC Yards after Contact. We need to have the mentality of a great running back.
Jude is telling us the same thing. Don’t give up what you could have had.

Faith comes by hearing but it is not released by hearing.
James talks about Dead faith. Dead things don’t move.
Every time I release my faith power always flows to meet that need.
The devil wants to take your faith.
Faith is the currency by which we conduct business with heaven.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭17‬-‭21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.”
https://bible.com/bible/114/rom.4.17-21.NKJV
He is the performer. Not us.
Abraham called something that wasn’t there as though it was here. Faith has a call to it.
It comes by hearing, but it is released by calling. The less we call it, the less it will flow.
Mark 11:23-24 - when you say it, you call it.
God could not do the calling for Abraham. The calling was Abraham’s part, the bringing dead things back to life was God’s. We cannot leave the calling to others because no one can release your faith on your behalf. They can add their faith to yours, but they cannot do the calling for you.
Faith has a call to it.
Have you ever heard someone say you wasted all your time saying that. I have a different saying that I think will help you:
Don’t waste your time not saying.
Don’t waste your time not calling.
Because what we call, is what He is to us. If we call him our healer, he is our healer. If we call him our savior, he is our savior. No one ever made Him their Savior without calling Him their Savior.
“For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.””
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
You might want to find out more about what you can call him in your life.
What belongs to us, is waiting to hear from us. That call of faith.
Faith has a call.
He called himself the father of many nations when he wasn’t.
The enemy is also waiting on our call.
What we are saying shows who we are calling. What we call shows who we call.
If you are constantly saying, “I have always had terrible allergies.” You are calling.
It does matter what you say. If you say it long enough, you will deceive your heart into believing.
Find out what God‘s word says about your situation and call that. If you talk circumstances you call more of that. Be aware of circumstances and call them to leave.
If you talk about the lack of money, you call that.
Your life is filled with what you are calling.
You have to call yourself blessed when you aren’t. You have to call yourself healed when you aren’t. You have to call your marriage healthy when it isn’t.
The enemy will suggest thoughts to you. And your life can play out according to those thoughts if you accept them as truth.
The enemy is against us. He’s the accuser of the brethren.
Can I tell you something? God is not mad at anybody.
Even though you are blessed, prosperous, healthy, those things won’t come into your life until you call them. Even though they belong to you.
What do you call Him in your home? Your business? Your body? Your marriage?
He’s my healer, my provider, my business partner, a friend that sticks closer than a brother, a very present help in time of need, my deliverer.
What are you calling him?
Maybe you’re looking at something in your life and it looks dead. The good news is that it doesn’t qualify to be called unless it’s dead. It doesn’t qualify to be called unless it doesn’t exist.
‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭17‬-‭22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.””
https://bible.com/bible/114/rom.4.17-22.NKJV
According to this verse - there is such a thing as strong faith and weak faith.
3 things you can’t let have influence:
Your body
The calendar
Someone else’s body
If that thing is dead, that’s how it qualifies for quickening. Your body, your business, your marriage.
Abraham say God do something for him that he has never seen God do for anybody else. If you are doubting that God can do the same for you, Don’t.
Faith requires revelation. Revelation requires two things, words and vision(seeing). God’s language is vision.
This can come from Logos which is for all mankind, but is Rhema which is a word from God specifically for you.
There is a way faith comes - by hearing.
Then it needs to be released - by saying and doing.
The Dead Sea - water flows in but not out.
You are not the performer. God is. You are the caller.
Calling transfers from God’s realm to ours. Calling gives permission to transfer.
“For we who have believed (adhered to and trusted in and relied on God) do enter that rest, in accordance with His declaration that those [who did not believe] should not enter when He said, As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest; and this He said although [His] works had been completed and prepared [and waiting for all who would believe(who called)] from the foundation of the world. [Ps. 95:11.]”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭3‬ ‭AMPC‬‬
What is waiting on your call?
When your need shows up is not when God’s preparing begins.
If I don’t call it… what He has prepared goes unclaimed. Worry is not what transfers into this realm. Calling does. Worry transfers somebody else’s preparations into this realm.
I call the completed plan of God into this realm. I have the easy part, the calling. He has the hard part. The doing. Faith calls those things that be not as though they were. Because they are. In his room. The realm from which all blessing flows. My call begins to transfer. It invites what God planned and completed into my life. My call is my invitation and my permission. God doesn’t do anything in this world without a man first giving his permission.
Let’s begin to call. Stand to your feet. Let’s practice calling some things out.
Talk over those thoughts. Don’t let the enemy start talking over you. Just like when you’re in a conversation with your husband and you greatly disagree with him. You just start talking over him, don’t wait for him to finish.
Let’s do business with heaven now. Get out your currency. It’s time to deploy heaven here on earth.
