Leaning up against the cheap aluminum siding

Look around to see if there’s anyone worth knowing
But the gate is open now, so it’s time to go in

Ingressing like cattle – neatly examined, scanned and stamped
Advised by staff to get to the stage before it gets too cramped
It’s cold inside due to the damp, crisp December air
From my right saunters in some guy with well-coiffed Morrissey hair

He looks the part though he’s witnessed far better years
38 inches crammed inside chaps made for a much younger queer
Tight black leather zippered boots with extremely pointy toes
Dark red lenses perched across a garish, but naturally hooked nose

Fuck, eye contact made and with a gloved hand extended
He takes my lifeless hand but in his head I’m already befriended
I peek inside his hemp backpack, and spy a corner of Nietzsche
‘A bit pretentious’, I think to myself, ‘but oh whatever to each their…’

He’s that guy at a show, oh come on man, you know
He’s the one who appears at almost every other show
You think to yourself, well something doesn’t quite make sense
He’s had to see me here before, and he makes me feel quite tense 

Says he’s got the test pressing for the album due in May
Tells me he stayed up all night bidding for it on eBay
Thinking this concert bullshit from a person I’ve never known
He shows me a picture of it saved to his fucking iPhone

He offers me the signed poster he got with the VIP package
Printed on quality card stock but I didn’t want the baggage
I politely take the unwanted poster from him regardless
And yes, I did thank him, I’m not fucking heartless

I know it feels really weird but I think I can get through this
Two to three hours of loud music in a psychedelic bliss
We won’t be able to talk during the show much anyway
But he keeps looking over and I prefer him to go away

One or two times he leans against my tensing shoulder
I was friendly at first but now I’m feeling much colder
At the point where the song moves to a much faster beat
I pretend I’m pushed from the left and knock him off his fucking feet

He’s the one who appears at almost every other show
You think to yourself, well something doesn’t quite fit
He’s had to see me here before, so tonight he decides I’m it?
 
Sated indeed with that deftly executed move
I refrain from eye contact and continue to groove
But, as expected, here comes the encore break
And like a fucking idiot, I make a big fucking mistake

I turn to my right to view the bar for a needed distraction
But fuck me he sees it and it rekindles his attraction
He squeezes my right shoulder hard asks if I’m having fun
I said ‘Yeah these fuckers rock hard but I gotta run’

He says, ‘No way you’re actually going to miss the encore?’
“ …really hate to, but I get up at 5” then head for the exit door
That’s really not true but he can’t prove that I’m lying
And I do prefer honesty, but I can feel my anger intensifying

‘Okay’, he says, ‘Sorry to hear, hope to see you at another concert’
I say, ‘Yeah, maybe’, as I zip up my mail order Wax Trax sweatshirt
It often burns my ass when I decide to give up an encore
But that guy at the show was way more than I fuckin’ bargained for

He’s had to see me here before, so I know now to beware
