DC Universe Online (DCUO) is an online MMO based on the superheroes of DC Comics. These include heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern and others. The villains include Lex Luthor, Circe, Sinestro, The Joker, Harley Quinn, Mr Freeze and others.

In this game, the player gets injected with exobytes which gives that player super powers. The player chooses a mentor from the heroes or the villains. Missions and guidance will then be given by whoever your mentor is.

〰️〰️〰️ Is DCUO “Pay to Win”? What do you get for spending real world money? 〰️〰️〰️

Unlike many games today, this game is not supported by advertising. Instead, DCUO offers a real-world-cash to in-game currency exchange as well as a membership option which expands your inventory and bank as well as the usual benefits one would expect.

Short answer - we would give this a PG-13 rating.

Since this is a comic book MMO, we have the cartoon violence in addition to the sexualization of women. No one should be surprised that this happens.

That said, we leave the decision to parents if this is a game their children should play.

In addition, as this is an MMO, players get to chat with one another. While there is a profanity filter, there are ways around it in addition to the ideas and concepts being discussed that a teenager may not be ready for.

There is a lot of content in this game. If one is a completionist and wants to do everything, they can and the game can be a little grindy. If one is willing to skip the tutorials and stories and jump straight into the end-game content, that option is available as well.

DCUO is made for the Personal Computer. Even though DCUO is a more mature game, this will not run on a mobile system.

〰️〰️〰️ What about in-game advertisements? How many are there? How intrusive are they? Do you get anything for enduring them? 〰️〰️〰️

There are no in-game advertisements for real world products. There are parody ads which are more of an Easter Egg than any attempt to entice you to spend real world money. We appreciate that about this game.

〰️〰️〰️ What is the story in DCUO? 〰️〰️〰️

The game takes place on an alternate Earth where heroes and villains are in state of constant warfare. While this is going on, Brainiac - a super-computer entity from Superman's planet of Krypton - harvests the powers of those individuals. Brianiac's plan is to then delete the originals and when Brianiac has obtained all information in the multi-verse, will “reboot” the multiverse in his image.

Lex Luthor discovers this plan late. He goes back in time and implants exobytes into random people all over the world. He then tells Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman to mentor these individuals; teach them how to utilize their new-found abilities and be ready for Brianiac's return.

The game begins with Lex Luthor; for the villains; or Superman; for the heroes; breaking the player out of Brianiac's prison.

〰️〰️〰️ Is this a commitment game or a casual game? 〰️〰️〰️

This is a commitment game. While there is a decent story line to get into the game, there are 48 additional episodes which can be played. This is not something that can be done in 15 minutes.

Exploration videos just show the cut scenes from Booster Gold's narration.

It's not a bad game. It's still in active development. If you like the idea of “being Batman", this is a game for you.
