On today's podcast, Dan Novak and Ashley Thompson host the show. Ashley tells listeners what they are going to hear today.

First, we have a winning essay from our Ukraine essay contest. Andrew Smith and Gena Bennett read Larisa Dashevska's essay about life in Kherson. Ukraine has had a complex history and faced many challenges. But nothing could have prepared Ukrainians for the ordeal of the Russian occupation of Kherson.

Then Greg Stachel has a report on how hungry Gazans are reduced to eating mallow as the five-month war continues following the attack by Gaza's Hamas rulers on Israel. Websites are warning that Gaza could face a famine in the coming months. Currently, Gazans are observing the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims fast during the day and feast at night.
