Riots erupted in France

◾Riots erupted in France after Abdoulaye, a 34-year-old Black man, died in police custody. He suffered from severe mental health issues and experienced medical emergencies while the police apprehended him.

Abdoulaye had already previously been targeted by police, with a 2023 video showing him beaten during an arrest. His death is part of a wider pattern of police violence in France, which leads the European Union in deaths in custody. In 2024, 43 fatalities in police custody were recorded.
