Paul's letter to the Galatian congregations is a response to those poisoning the gospel message. Therefore, to understand this epistle one must understand the attackers. The judaizing party came behind Paul's missionary work in a stealthy fashion after he left each town. They inserted teachers probably experienced Pharisee teachers who undermined Paul's reputation and his gospel message focused on grace and faith in Christ. In contrast their focus was on using the law in an over regulatory manner in addition to more restrictive rules of Pharisees own making. They were working on bringing these gentiles into a Pharisaical extreme worship of God. Paul first defends his Apostleship:
