Asteroid capable of devastating earth impact detected

Astronomers have discovered a large asteroid, 2022 AP7, whose orbit crosses Earth’s, creating a potential collision risk in the distant future. The 1.5-kilometer-wide asteroid was detected using the Victor M. Blanco telescope in Chile. While it poses no immediate threat, a collision could have catastrophic consequences. Astronomers continue to track near-Earth objects (NEOs), many still hidden due to the Sun’s glare. NASA's DART mission tested technology to alter an asteroid’s path in case of future threats.
