Razing Arizona: Art Inspired By The American Southwest

We spent two weeks on the road in Arizona, spending our time in Phoenix, the Grand Canyon, Sedona and Tucson. First and foremost, we had a great experience there and everybody was very friendly. That WON’T be reflected in this video!

I used the very recognizable imagery of the geography to act as a jumping off point for specific social commentary and the like, but everything pretty much ends with any associations at that point. As Max Ernst said, “Creativity is that marvelous capacity to grasp mutually distinct realities and draw a spark from their juxtaposition.” I was going to write up brief summaries of each work to explain them and reinforce that point but that tends to run against my nature to let the art speak for itself. In addition, not providing any artist commentary provides safe havens for open interpretations of the work. In many ways, I’m just the receiver of input with a ‘record head’ to capture it all as I see it. Others may see other things as they tune in or, tune out for that matter.
