On November 20, 2024, in Oakhurst, Madera County, California, a vehicle theft led to a pursuit and subsequent shooting involving a suspect and a sheriff's K9. The incident began when a 41-year-old man, identified as Allen Scott Williams, was reported driving a stolen SUV and involved in multiple hit-and-run collisions. The vehicle's owner spotted the stolen SUV and reported its location to the Madera County Sheriff's Office, even pursuing Williams at one point.

The pursuit concluded on Road 425B, where Williams abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies deployed K9 Obie to apprehend him. During the chase, Williams fired a shotgun, injuring Obie. Deputies returned fire, wounding Williams. Both were transported to medical facilities and are expected to recover.

Williams, known to law enforcement with prior felony convictions and outstanding warrants, now faces multiple felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and animal cruelty. The Madera Police Department and the Madera County District Attorney's Office are investigating the incident.
K9 Obie, a two-year-old Dutch Shepherd, is recovering at home with shotgun pellets that are not expected to be removed.
