Trump Praises 'Smart' Turkey For 'Syria Takeover', Israel Strikes 'Missile Depots' Near Russian Base

Israeli strikes hit military sites in Syria's Tartus region overnight, described as the heaviest in years, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Israeli warplanes launched strikes targeting a series of sites including air defence units and "surface-to-surface missile depots,” as per the war monitor. The Observatory said 18 raids "targeted strategic locations on the Syrian coast" in "the heaviest strikes in Syria's coastal region since the start of strikes in 2012." The Tartus province also houses a naval base belonging to Russia, a close ally of president Bashar al-Assad. US President-elect Donald Trump said Turkey had orchestrated an "unfriendly takeover" in Syria, "without a lot of lives being lost."
